December 6th | National Day for Rememberance and Action on Violence Against Women

On December 6th, Saint Mary's University will be acknowledging the National Day for Rememberane and Action on Violence Against Women.

We would love to have you at the ceremony; it's at the SMU art gallery, and will be from 12-2pm.

From 12-1pm will be a rose ceremony, in rememberance of the fourteen women who were killed at l'Ecole Polytechnique.

From 1pm to 2pm, we will be showing the National Film Board film, "After the Montreal Massacre" as an intro to spoken word, poetry, and discussion. This session is to discuss why Dec 6th matters, and to mobilize ourselves in the campaign to end violence against women.

If you have any questions, or would like to present anything you might be working on regarding violence against women, please send me an email. We are open to academic papers, song, poetry - anything you might be working on regarding ending violence against women.

Contact me at womenscentre@smu.ca if you have anything you'd like to present from 1pm-2pm.

Hope to see you all there!

Board Meeting | Reduced December Hours | Thank You Alana!

The next Women's Centre Board Meeting will be this Tuesday, Nov 22nd, at 6pm in the Women's Centre. If there's anything you'd like to see on the agenda, please send Jen a quick email. We will also (90% confirmed) be having Stu Neatby at a guest speaker that night. He wants to address our group regarding the Haiti Week of Action, and to offer opportunities to be involved. We'll also be choosing a shirt design that night - get your entries in, folks!

Beginning on Nov 28th, the Centre will be operating on reduced hours. Our volunteers are swamped with exams, projects and the like - volunteer hours from the 28th until 2006 are optional. Jen will continue to keep the door open for a few hours in the mornings (except for Mondays). When we all have our schedules for next term, we'll create a new volunteer schedule for Term 2.

A big THANK YOU to Alana Green, who conducted the Women's Self Defense on Wednesday night. I've heard nothing but good things - we certainly appreciate that you set aside that night just for us, and we look forward to having you again in the new year!

Titz up!

THANK YOU to our Titz'n'Glitz volunteers.

Last night was so beautiful and fun, the SMU Women's Centre had a strong showing of Jingle Boob volunteers. Doing various tasks such as coat check, security, stage production and other tasks, we helped make it a super big success!

Not sure about everyone else, but I am feeling internally awkward from the large amounts of smoked salmon and cheesecake that I consumed. It was FANTASTIC!

If you have photos from the event, please forward them to jennifer.crawford@smu.ca.

Again, thank you to all of our volunteers - our new breast friends!
