FEMINIST FRIDAY -- the Saint Patrick's Day edition!

If you find yourself at 12:00 noon on March 17th wishing that you had a place to go with some awesome feminist conversation and maybe a snack and some green beer, definitely swing by to visit our Feminist Friday!

We'll meet at the Women's Centre at 12:00 noon, and then head down to the Gorsebrook for a well-deserved break from our daily toils.

Job Posting -- SMU Women's Centre Coordinator

Women’s Centre Coordinator, 2006-2007
Job Description

The Women’s Centre Coordinator is responsible for all day-to-day functions of the centre, special events, promotion and volunteer coordination. The starting date for the position is September 15th, but will require some hours of work before that date (preparation of promotional materials for frosh kits, and the Society Expo).

Specific job requirements include, but are not limited to:

Creating and printing of promotional materials for the Frosh Kits
Host a table at both Society Expos, in September and in January
Creating a volunteer schedule, schedule of events, and budget for the year
Manage, keep record of, and account for the annual budget of $3500
Completing monthly reports (recording hours spent in office hours, creating documents, at events, meetings, et cetera)
Maintaining regular office hours
Acknowledge important women-related dates (October:: Women’s History Month, December 6th: Montreal Massacre Memorial, March 8th: International Women’s Day)
Maintaining an up-to-date record of Women’s Centre finances
Submit a weekly article to The Journal, with updates of Women’s Centre events
Prompt response to concerns of gender inequality/sexism on campus
Create women-focused programming for the campus community
Organize and coordinate the volunteer “Office Hours” schedule
Create promotional materials for the Centre and for Centre events
At every opportunity possible, collaborate on events with other organizations and offices on campus and in the community
Initiate and maintain contact with the Dalhousie Women’s Centre
Regular updating of the Women’s Centre blog (

Hosting monthly Board Meetings (creating an agenda, reporting on the past month’s events, reporting on upcoming events, soliciting feedback from Board Members and volunteers)
Maintaining a sign-out system for the Centre’s library, and ensuring all books are returned at the end of the year



Remuneration for this position is $3500 for the 2006-2007 academic year; this amount will be divided equally across the pay periods from September 15th to April 30th. The Coordinator is expected to work approximately 10-15 hours per week, depending on the number of events scheduled.
